Checking In

I have not posted in more than two weeks and I thought it time to update. Since going off the shakes, I have managed to gain 4 pounds. I cannot seem to lose any weight, regardless of the fact that I am only eating approximately 600 calories per day and working out by running 3 miles at least 5 days a week. It is so frustrating to have come this far to have my body reject my ability to lose any more weight.

I am not giving up. I will continue to do whatever it takes to lose the rest of the weight. I am actually enjoying the running and am running about a 12:30 minute mile. Not bad if I do say so. I always liked running but have been unable to run since my weight gain. Now that I am slightly smaller it does not seem to bother my knees and hips like it used to. I do need to stretch extensively before and after but that may just be me getting old. I have a run coming up in December and I want to run the whole 5K. I think I have this in the bag.

I am eating a vegan diet and do not miss the meat at all. I do miss the cheese and eggs but I am finding other ways to cook to compensate. I enjoy cooking and discovering new recipes from pintrest. I cannot believe all of the people out there who are vegan. I find it most difficult when eating out. There are very few restaurants that cater to vegan eaters so I usually just ask them to hold this, and hold that.

On another note, I went school shopping with my daughter last weekend and decided to go into Banana Republic (one of my favorite stores). I went directly to the sale rack and decided to try on a few pairs of pants. I am happy to report that I am officially a size 14. I ended up with two new pairs of pants and they fit fabulously. I would like to eventually be in a single digit pants size but I will definitely take this one. Winnnnnninnng!

  1. One thing to think about is you actually may not be eating enough calories for the amount of exercise you're doing. I discovered that this week when the clinic told me that if you're on a low calorie diet and get in too much exercise based on how much you're taking in, the body goes into starvation mode and burns muscle instead of fat. Didn't want to alarm you with that, but I've actually had to cut back on the exercise until I can increase my calories once I'm off the fast. Just something to think about. One of the points that brought up is the idea of where you can eat out at restaurants in a healthy way. I have been thinking about that for when the time comes after the fast. So many places put in so much fat, calories, sodium, etc. that I wonder where is there a safe place to go. If you find some in San Diego, do tell us about them because I would love to add them to a "safe list" once I'm eating out again. While I'm not vegan, I do want to incorporate more healthy eating in that direction when the time comes.

  2. Jodi,

I understand your frustration, my weight is coming off at a snails pace, and you are way ahead of me in the losses department, but it took years to put that fat on and it's going to take a little time to say goodbye. I have also experienced situations where I have not eaten enough or eaten a very repetitive diet and not lost, so shake things up a little and make sure you are eating enough for all that you are burning. You need to fuel your body to build muscle not destroy it. I'm with Kathy on this one.

On a happy note Hells to the yea on the whole Banana Republic gig. WOO woo! It feels good to shop in a normal place haha. Have you been measuring yourself? Even if my weight loss is minimal I am losing inches! We are going to be FOX-ES! Beautiful American FOX-ES! haha

Proud of you for sticking with it. Cheese makes my stomach feel awful, so you are not missing much there and eggs..meh! Find a farmers market that sells bitchin sauce...chipotle yum... and Majestic sprouted hummus. DEEELISH!

Also a friend and I ate at a vegan place off of University and the 805, on the south side of street, and it was good. Had chair swings at two of the tables and was very good. If I can think of the name perhaps you can pass it on to your friend. Maybe we could go eat there some time. Hell let's just get together and have a hang out day!

PS get me those pants stat!
